BSP vs Tech Provider: who actually owns your WhatsApp account?

Meta has two partner categories, and the difference matters commercially. A Solution Partner — commonly called a BSP — can hold a credit line with Meta, resell messaging, and invoice you for it. A Tech Provider connects your own WhatsApp Business Account to their software, and Meta bills you directly. Under the first model your messaging is resold to you with a margin; under the second there is no margin to add.

Why this decides ownership

When a provider resells messaging, the commercial relationship — and sometimes the WhatsApp Business Account itself — can sit with them. That matters on the day you want to leave: whether you can take your number, your templates and your quality rating with you depends on whose name the account is in.

ConneXus is a Tech Provider

Your WhatsApp Business Account is created in your name through Meta Embedded Signup and stays yours. Meta bills you directly for messaging. We never invoice you for conversations, and there is nothing for us to mark up — our revenue is the subscription, which is also why our pricing page is simple.

What to ask any provider

Four questions that surface the real terms.

  • Whose name is the WhatsApp Business Account in?
  • Does Meta bill me directly, or do you invoice me for messages?
  • If you invoice me, what is your margin over Meta's published rates?
  • If I leave, can I take the number, the templates and the quality rating?

Frequently asked questions

Is a Tech Provider less official than a BSP?

No — both are Meta partner categories. They differ commercially, not in legitimacy: a Solution Partner can resell messaging, a Tech Provider connects you to Meta directly.

How do I find out if my provider marks up messaging?

Ask whether Meta bills you directly or they invoice you for messages. If they invoice you, ask what their rate is against Meta's published rates for your country.

Can I move my number to another provider?

If the WhatsApp Business Account is in your name, yes. If it sits with a reseller, it depends on their terms — which is why the ownership question is worth asking before you sign.
